I did not go to "real church" last Sunday, nor did I listen to the podcast. (yet) I did hear the tail end of the pastor's message and it seemed to be a very good one. He made us do things. I normally don't like that but it was good. Hands up. Hands out. Hands together or something like that. When he instructed us to clasp one another's hand he prayed and began singing this worship chorus that I'd not sung in many years yet will never forget. I wasn't sure if he wanted us to sing with him or just listen to him sing. Those around me were not singing but perhaps they did not know the words to the song? Not sure.
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together
With cords that cannot be broken
Bind us Together Lord
Bind us together
Bind us together with love
There is only God
There is only one King
There is only one body
This is why we sing
Only, he did not sing the 2nd part. Just the Bind Us Together part.
Bind us together with love. What does that really mean to you?

Hey there, found you via Pete Wilson's blog. I think that it means that whether we feel like it or not, we're one. That was we work thru issues and struggle thru relationships, we learn how to fall in love with community all over again.
ReplyDeleteYou've described it quite well and yet I really struggle with community and my expectation with community. I like how you pinpointed that we are "One". Thats been my pastor's message series title for the past several weeks and I really question this concept of one-ness and how it looks and plays out in today's society.
ReplyDeleteI love how you put that as we work through issues and struggle through relationships, we fall in love with community all over again.
I want community, but struggle with it. Not sure if my expectations are too high or I simply have a wrong definition.
Being bound by love is a lot of work and sacrifice, tears and joy....It really is a messy thing, but a good thing.
